One thing I truly enjoy about my job as chief candy curator at A Real Treat is the opportunity to talk with our customers, to get feedback, to hear what they love, but also what they are missing. Over the course of the past 10 months, I have had many customers ask me for options without any refined sugars but also that don't have sugar alcohols or other substitutes. Right now, we carry just a couple of products that fit that bill, and they are chocolate. Many of the requests come from moms of little candy fans who are craving a chewy sweet treat.
Well, I am never one to turn down a challenge. We went ahead and opened A Real Treat to bring you a better candy store experience. Now we are going to begin making our own candy and working our way toward products that are free of all "traditional" sugars (corn syrup, glucose tapioca syrup AND cane sugar).
Step 1: Remove corn syrup and glucose syrup from marshmallows and replace with alternatives. COMPLETE!
Step 2: Remove cane sugar. In Progress!
In the meantime, take a look at something we are prepping for the fall. Think a crisp chill in the air, maybe pulling out your sweaters, the smell of maple and bacon.
